kiteToday ("we", "our", "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. We designed kiteToday to work with minimal data collection and to respect your privacy by default.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

1. Information we collect

Data stored on your device

The app stores the following information locally on your device. This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us:

• Your last map position (latitude, longitude, zoom level)
• Your wind unit preference (knots, km/h, or mph)
• Your rider weight category
• Your nearby spots radius preference
• Your list of favorite kitesurfing spots
• Whether you have accepted the disclaimer

Data processed by our services

When you use the app, limited technical information is processed to provide the service:

• The kitesurfing spot you are viewing
• The forecast day requested (e.g. today or tomorrow)
• Your IP address (automatically processed by our hosting provider for security and operational purposes)

We do not collect or store:

• Your name, email address, or phone number
• Photos, contacts, or payment information

We do not use IP addresses to identify you.

Location data

kiteToday includes an optional "locate me" feature that centers the map on your current position. When (and only when) you tap this button, the app requests your device's GPS location through iOS or Android.

Your precise coordinates are used briefly to center the map and to show a small indicator at your position. They are never sent to our servers, never stored on your device, and never shared with third parties. The app does not track your location in the background and does not request location at startup.

You can decline or revoke this permission at any time in your device's Settings → kiteToday → Location. The rest of the app works normally without location access.

If you choose to open a spot in Apple Maps using the "Open in Apple Maps" button, the spot's coordinates (not yours) are passed to Apple Maps to display the destination. This is a standard iOS handoff and is governed by Apple's own privacy policy.

2. How we use information

We use the limited data described above to:

• Provide kitesurfing forecasts and conditions
• Maintain service performance and security
• Prevent abuse (e.g. rate limiting)

We do not:

• Sell or rent data
• Use data for advertising or tracking
• Create user profiles or perform automated decision-making

3. Legal basis (for EEA users)

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), processing is based on our legitimate interest in operating and securing the app. Because no account is required and no personal data is collected, the data processed is minimal and limited to what is necessary to provide the service.

4. Data sharing

We do not share data for marketing purposes.

We use third-party providers to operate the app, including:

• Hosting and database providers
• Weather data providers
• Map providers

They process limited technical data only to provide their services.

We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third parties and recommend reviewing their policies.

5. Data retention

• Local data stays on your device until you remove it
• Server logs (including IP addresses) are kept for up to 30 days
• Anonymous aggregated data may be retained longer

6. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

• Access your data
• Request deletion
• Request correction
• Object to certain processing

Because we do not maintain user accounts, data linked to you is minimal.

7. Children's privacy

kiteToday is not intended for children under 13 (or the applicable minimum age in your region).

We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe we have done so, contact us and we will delete it.

8. Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your data:

• Encrypted communication (HTTPS/TLS)
• Restricted system access
• Standard security practices

No system is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.

9. Tracking and analytics

We do not use:

• Cookies
• Advertising identifiers
• Third-party analytics or tracking tools

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy occasionally. Updates will be shown by the "Last updated" date.
